Interdistrict School Choice

Dear Parents,

New Jersey’s Interdistrict School Choice program is designed to expand educational opportunities for students and their families by providing the option for students to attend a public school outside their district of residence. The Morris School District is proud to be among New Jersey’s “Choice” districts. As such, a student who resides in a school district other than the Morris School District may apply to attend school in the Morris School District at no cost to the student's family

There are several steps and procedures you must follow if you are interested in having your child participate in the NJ Interdistrict School Choice program for the 2014-2015 school year. Specific information regarding these steps, application procedures, and timelines are available on the NJ Department of Education website, at http://www.state.nj.us/education/choice/parents/process.htm

The first steps in the process required to participate in the Interdistrict School Choice process for the 2014-2015 school year are to complete the School Choice Student Application Form and the Notice of Intent to Participate Form (links below). If your student is currently registered with his/her resident district, a completed Notice of Intent to Participate Form must be received by the resident district by December 2, 2013. The resident district should provide a signed receipt noting the date on which this form was received. Keep a copy of this receipt for your records. By law, a resident district must be informed by December 2, 2013 if a student intends to participate in the choice program for the 2014-2015 school year.

Please note: When making your decision, please be aware that transportation may not be provided for your student. Depending on the circumstances, the resident district may provide aid in lieu of transportation. For more information regarding transportation, visit the New Jersey Department of Education Website, www.state.nj.us/education/finance/transportation/procedures/
