Program Development in Language Arts Literacy
The Morris School District
adopts an inquiry-based approach to program development
that relies on research vis-à-vis wise practice
in the discipline.
The K-5 Language Arts Committee
is currently conducting research to develop a synthesis
of current wisdom in reading education. Faculty members’ research
investigates wise practice vis-à-vis instructional
practice, instructional materials, programs and professional
development in the strands of phonics, phonemic awareness,
vocabulary, knowledge schemas, fluency and text comprehension.
The Middle School Language Arts Committee is currently
conducting research to develop a synthesis of current
wisdom in integrated language arts education. Faculty
members’ research investigates the principles
of excellent middle school language arts literacy education
vis-à-vis curricular content, instructional
practice, and coherent program design.
The High School
Language Arts Plus Committee is conducting research
in meaning-centered language arts literacy education
for struggling readers and writers. Language Arts
Plus faculty members are currently implementing a pilot
program that engages students in reading, writing
and
research organized around developmentally appropriate
and appropriately rigorous themes for adolescent
learners.
