The Board shall elect a President and a Vice President at its annual organization
meeting. In order to offer a nomination, the Board Member must be present. If no
nominee receives a majority vote of the whole Board membership, the nominations
previously made shall be declared void and the nominations reopened.
The President and Vice President shall serve for one year.
If the board fails to hold an organizational meeting or fails to elect said officers, as
prescribed by law, the county superintendent shall appoint a President and Vice
President from among the Members of the Board.
Should the office of the President become vacant the Vice President shall fill the
unexpired term. Should the office of the Vice President become vacant, the Board shall
use the method of election set forth in paragraph one above to select a member to fill
the vacancy for the balance of the term. The election shall take place within 30 days or
the officer’s vacancy.
If the President or Vice President should refuse to perform a duty imposed upon
him/her by law, he/she may be removed by a majority vote of all of the Members of the
Board. The position shall be considered vacant and shall be filled by the Board in the
manner described above. If the Board fails to fill the vacancy within 30 days of the
vacancy, the county superintendent shall fill the vacancy for the balance of the term.
Should both the President and Vice President be absent from a meeting at which a
quorum is present, the majority of the quorum shall appoint a presiding officer pro tem.
The Board shall, by a recorded roll-call majority vote at its annual organization meeting,
appoint a person to serve as Board Secretary unless the incumbent is tenured.
The Board shall also appoint a treasurer of school moneys at the annual organization
meeting. The treasurer shall be bonded according to law.
Other auxiliary officials the Board finds necessary, such as an attorney or architect or
others permitted or required by law, shall be appointed at the organizational meeting
when feasible, or otherwise at a later date.
