In accordance with the board’s philosophy of developing the special abilities of each pupil, the board requires
that appropriate instructional programs be conducted to meet the needs at all grade levels of pupils identified
as gifted and talented.
These programs shall seek to provide:
- Expansion of academic attainments and intellectual skills;
- Stimulation of intellectual curiosity, independence and responsibility;
- Development of originality and creativity;
- Development of positive attitude toward self and others;
- Development of desirable social and leadership skills;
- Career exploration and awareness.
Procedures shall be established by the superintendent for identifying children of demonstrated achievement
or potential ability in any of the following areas, singly or in combination:
- A. General intellectual ability
- Specific academic aptitude
- Creative or productive thinking
- Leadership ability
- Visual and performing arts
- Athletic ability
Courses of study may be devised in cooperation with other learning institutes or agencies for the
development of one or more pupils in accordance with the policy of the board for independent study.
