The Board of Education believes that guidance/counseling can assist pupils in achieving their
optimum development; enable pupils to draw the greatest benefit from the offerings of the
instructional program of the schools; aid pupils in identifying options and making choices in
vocational and academic educational planning; assist pupils in career awareness and planning;
help integrate all the pupil’s experience so that he/she can better relate school activity to life
outside the school, and help pupils learn to make their own decision and solve problems
independently.
An informal program of guidance/counseling shall be offered to all pupils in grades kindergarten
through five and shall be the responsibility of the classroom teacher and principal who may draw
upon the services of other staff members, as they are required.
The program of guidance/counseling offered pupils in grades six through 12 shall involve the
coordinated efforts of all staff members under the professional leadership of certified
guidance/counseling personnel.
Disruptive and disaffected pupils require intensive guidance/counseling. Help should be sought
from the child study team whenever a pupil is identified as having significant behavior problems.
