The Morris School District Board of Education is committed to providing essential instructional services for all students. These services include:
- Building and district administration;
- District curriculum and instruction support;
- Pupil personnel services;
- Preschool screening for students with educational handicaps;
- Native language assessment for limited English proficient students;
- Kindergarten screening (academic and medical) and centralized registration;
- Guidance (academic career and crisis counseling);
- Speech;
- Child study team;
- Annual performance assessment (local and state standardized testing; screening for academic support programs);
- Medical examinations for athletic teams;
- Health services (school physician, nurse, trainer, etc.);
- Basic skill development;
- Gifted and talented;
- Special education;
- 504 provisions;
- Bilingual and English as a Second Language; and
- Parent conferences.
The Board of Education is committed to providing the resources necessary to deliver a comprehensive educational program comprised of essential services, rigorous academic study, intramural and interscholastic athletic competition, and expansive co-curricular activities. The Board shall establish appropriate policies and regulations and provide an adequate operating budget to:
- maintain healthy and safe school facilities;
- employ teachers and support staff;
- acquire essential instructional equipment, supplies, and textbooks;
- support professional development programs, and
- ensure delivery of instructional programs and pupil services.
The core curriculum content standards shall be implemented consistently in district schools. The Superintendent or his/her designee shall distribute instructional resources for the regular program equitably among district schools at the same level. He/she shall ensure that each school provides the academic support programs and services required to meet the educational needs of assigned students at the respective grade levels.
The district shall provide additional instructional resources to meet special educational needs of students. The Superintendent or his/her designee shall coordinate the placement of highly specialized, limited enrollment programs (e.g., Bilingual, self-contained special education class, etc.) in district schools to consolidate instructional resources, provide the most appropriate learning environment, ensure equal educational opportunity, and meet the special educational needs of students. Every effort shall be made to distribute special programs equitably among schools at the same level to facilitate successful integration of students with mainstream classes.
The Board recognizes the wealth of instructional resources within the local community and encourages the Superintendent or his/her designee to establish collaborative working relationships with representatives of colleges and universities, businesses and corporations, municipalities, service clubs, and other agencies. He/she shall actively search for outside funding opportunities and explore alternative strategies to conserve natural resources and reduce operational costs.
