he Morris School District Board of Education believes that a comprehensive educational program must provide learning experiences to assist students to develop aesthetic appreciation, cultural understanding, and practical skills. The District shall provide learning opportunities in the fine, visual, performing, and practical arts that may incorporate the following subject areas:
- Business (including marketing, data and word processing, entrepreneurship, etc.)
- Creative Movement (including dance, gymnastics, choreography, etc.),
- Home Economics (including food science, child care, consumer science, etc.)
- Industrial Arts (including computer assisted design, electronics, etc.)
- Music (including instrumental and vocal music, theory and composition, etc.),
- Technology (including computer science, graphic arts, programming, etc.)
- Theatre (including acting, script writing, makeup/costume design, set design/construction, lighting and sound systems, production management, etc), and
- Visual Art (including art history, animation, cartooning, painting, photography, etc.)
The Superintendent or his/her designee shall work collaboratively with school staff and community resources to develop and implement a curriculum that:
- Addresses the educational goals and objectives of the district;
- Complies with state health and safety regulations;
- Incorporates New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and Workplace Readiness Skills;
- Encourages individuality, an appropriate balance of process and production, collaboration, creative problem solving, and artistic expression; and
- Provides a continuum of skills, with opportunities for enrichment, independent study, and practical application.
The District shall provide a comprehensive, sequential program of studies for students with an interest and/or special talent in fine, visual, performing and/or practical arts. The Superintendent or his/her designee is encouraged to implement a flexible program that meets the educational needs of the students, improves the delivery of curriculum, and reduces operational costs. Alternative program strategies may include:
- Implementation of a school within a school organization;
- Implementation of a staggered instructional schedule to extend facility utilization and expand program opportunities for students;
- Implementation of a differentiated staffing pattern (e.g., full and part time professional staff, interns, Artists-in-Residence, volunteers, etc.); and
- Utilization of available community resources (e.g., Community Theatre, Morris Museum, corporate worksites, etc.).
