Effective curriculum development requires that the district perform a comprehensive examination of all curriculum, textbook, and teaching practices on a regular basis to provide all children with experiences in those areas which are essential to a sound education. Curriculum planning, budgeting, facility and staff utilization, and professional development must be interrelated to ensure effective program implementation. A five (5) year schedule for curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation shall be established annually by the Board of Education to guide district improvement efforts. By following the prescribed sequence for program evaluation, the administration can focus staff efforts, plan in-service training, and forecast budget requirements.
Any member of the community-citizen, parent/guardian, pupil, staff member or board member-may submit a proposal for changes in methods, courses or programs related to curriculum and instruction. Thereafter, the proposal will be processed through the District Curriculum Council for review and recommendations. After the completion of these actions, and with the recommendation of the superintendent, the proposal shall be submitted to the board for final approval.
No curriculum or course shall be added, eliminated, or revised without approval by the Board of Education.
