The Morris School District Board of Education believes that an effective instructional program continuously adapts to changes in the educational needs of students, information, materials, methodology, and technology. If the educational program is to be responsive, the planning and evaluation process requires broad-based community involvement and support. A district Curriculum Council, comprised of parents, students, staff, representatives from the sending/receiving district, and school advisory committees shall ensure community involvement in educational decision-making and facilitate program articulation. Within the school community, articulation between schools and levels requires building and program representation.
The Superintendent or his/her designee shall establish procedures to ensure that:
- New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards are integrated into the district's curriculum;
- The district curriculum is articulated to provide the same quality of instruction and the same opportunities to each child in a given grade regardless of the school attended;
- Each pupil in the Morris School District is encouraged to progress and develop at his/her own rate;
- Student program placement is based on multiple criteria, including demonstrated performance;
- Subject area and grade level teachers have an opportunity to collaborate on curriculum development, evaluation of student performance, and professional development;
- Sending and receiving schools staff collaborate on student and parent orientation, program planning and evaluation, and professional development activities in accordance with the Sending-Receiving Agreement between both Boards of Education; and
- Guidance programs and services provide student and staff orientation, facilitate equal educational opportunity for all students, and focus on long-range program planning.
