SCHOOL CALENDAR

The Board of Education recognizes that the preparation of a calendar for the instructional program of the schools is necessary for orderly educational planning and efficient operation of the district. The Board shall determine annually the days when the schools shall be in session for instructional purposes.
The Superintendent or his/her designee, in consultation with representatives of teacher and administrator associations, parents, sending and receiving districts (in accordance with the sending-receiving agreements between the two districts), and, in compliance with New Jersey Statute and administrative code, shall develop a school calendar which incorporates:
  • A minimum of 180 days for student instruction;
  • Parent conferences;
  • Professional development days;
  • A standardized testing schedule, including local and New Jersey State Department of Education assessments;
  • Identification of established minimum session days for holidays, conferences, and school functions;
  • High School graduation ceremony; and
  • Modifications for emergency school closings;
The proposed calendar for the ensuing school year shall be presented to the Board of Education no later than the regular April meeting each year. The calendar shall be disseminated to all Morris School District and sending/receiving school district pupils, teachers and administrators. The Board shall not take action on the calendar until the following meeting.
