BUS CONDUCT

Causes for Loss of Privilege

Pupils may lose their bus transportation privilege because of:
  1. Disobedience to the bus driver's instruction;

  2. Failure to observe safety practices such as entering or leaving the bus properly, keeping aisles clear, remaining in seat, not tampering with any equipment.

  3. Disrespect to fellow passengers or the public including pushing, teasing, uncouth, loud or profane language, rude gestures, littering, and destruction or damage to property;

  4. Failure to be at their assigned bus stop on time and not respecting the property of the residences at which the bus stop is located. Pupils shall remain off the roadway and are prohibited from activities which could create dangerous situations to themselves or to other pupils.
Kindergarten through Grade Five

The school bus driver may refer any pupil who misbehaves to the principal of the school the pupil attends. The bus driver shall use the standard "misconduct Report on Bus" form when making the referral for each offense. These forms shall be filled in completely and correctly with all sheets attached.
  1. First offense

    The principal shall counsel the pupil involved; fill out the section of the form "Disposition by Principal," and forward copies as follows:
    • 1 copy to driver
    • 1 copy to be retained at school
    • 1 copy to transportation supervisor
    • 1 copy to parents/guardians

  2. Second offense

    The parents/guardians should be contacted by phone or letter. Depending on the severity of the infraction, the privilege of transportation may be denied with parent/guardian knowledge.

  3. Third offense

    The principal must communicate with the parents/guardians preferably by conference, and the pupil may be deprived of transportation to and from school.

    Additional reports of misbehavior may result in extended suspension of a pupil's bus riding privilege or total suspension of same.

    Failure of parents/guardians to meet with the principal may result in suspension of the pupil's riding privilege until a parent/guardian attends such a conference and the necessary disciplinary action is decided upon.

    Parents/guardians must be notified, in writing, of pupil's suspension of bus riding privilege. One copy of all suspension letters is to be sent to the transportation office.
