It is the policy of the Morris School District to prepare its students for the challenges of the twenty-first
century. One of the challenges is the need to deal with increasing technological complexity. While technology
will continue to evolve, students should be exposed to and demonstrate the ability to utilize current
technology which is relevant to learning, problem solving, and student achievement. The exposure to
technology and the acquisition of technology related skills should occur not in isolation, but rather in the
incorporation of appropriate technology into the core curriculum.
The Morris School District recognizes that all students must have adequate access to technology in its
schools in order to meet this challenge. Therefore, it is the District's responsibility to assure that all students
have adequate access to technology in order to facilitate learning and student achievement.
Furthermore, the efficient operation of the district and the accomplishment of the District's goals require a
staff which is proficient in applying appropriate technologies in the performance of their individual duties.
The Board charges the Superintendent to develop appropriate rules and regulations to implement this policy
in such a way that the following objectives will be realized:
- Students graduating from Morristown High School after June, 1997, will have attained basic computer
proficiencies in the following areas: word processing, calculations, spreadsheets, information organization,
retrieval and analysis, and an understanding of how technology works.
- All certificated staff will master technological competencies. These competencies will include an
understanding of computers, word processing, calculations, spreadsheets, and acquiring/analyzing
information.
- All students will have access to currently effective technology in the Morris District schools.
