The Morris School District serves students from the communities of Morristown and Morris Township. The
school district operates within a school desegregation plan that incorporates an open attendance area,
three paired elementary school attendance areas, and intra-district choice with a K-5 multiage magnet
school.
Within the Morris School District, elementary school attendance areas have been established for each of three pairs of schools:
Primary Levels (Grades K-2)
Hillcrest
Woodland
Alfred Vail
Intermediate Level(Grades 3-5)
Alexander Hamilton
Thomas Jefferson
Sussex Avenue
A fourth, centrally located residential area has been designated as an "open attendance area". Students within the open attendance area may be assigned to any of the three paired school attendance areas based on sibling placement, space availability, enrollment composition, and established transportation routes.
Resident parents/guardians from any of the four established attendance areas may register their
child(ren) for the K-5 Multiage Magnet Program, located at Normandy Park School. The criteria for
assignment to the multiage program include: sibling placement, enrollment composition, program
preference, space availability, and established transportation routes.
All students in grades six through eight attend Frelinghuysen Middle School and all students in grades nine through twelve attend Morristown High School. Students in grades nine through twelve from the
community of Morris Plains may attend high school in the Morris School District on a sending-receiving
tuition basis.
Exceptions to the foregoing shall include pupils assigned to schools other than the relevant attendance area school as a result of a particular need for a specific program or otherwise, and pupils requesting permission to attend a school outside their attendance area for a limited period of time for special reason, which permissions shall be afforded only with the specific determination of the Board of Education of the Morris School District. In the event a pupil is assigned to a school outside his/her attendance area either as required by law or upon the initiative of the Morris School District, transportation, consistent with general Morris School District policies, shall be provided. In the event the Board of Education consents to the request initiated by a pupil who wishes to attend a school outside his/her attendance area, no transportation shall be provided except as required by law.
