Privacy of Pupils
The Board of Education recognizes that an integral part of its responsibility for the pupils
entrusted to its care is the safeguarding of information about those pupils. The Board of
Education respects the privacy of the pupils of this district and their right to be immune from
public disclosure. To this end, the Board of Education directs that the names of pupils classified
as handicapped or identified for study by the child study team, or those under 18 years of age
whose conduct has been disciplined, shall not become part of the agenda or minutes of a public
meeting nor part of any public record of the Board of Education, but such pupils shall be
designated by code.
Lists of pupils and individual pupils' names may be released when such pupils have achieved a
distinction or honor granted by the Morris School District, except that any pupil's written request
that his/her name not be so released shall be granted.
The Superintendent shall instruct staff members that, with respect to the pupils in their charge,
they occupy positions of trust, and must respect the need for confidentiality in that relationship.
The activities, remarks and problems of pupils are not fit subjects for conversation outside of
school or with anyone not directly related to the welfare of those pupils.
