The Board of Education has made the buildings and grounds of the district's public schools available for
community use, provided that in the opinion of the Superintendent or his/her designee such use would
not conflict with, impede or negatively impact the operation of any school-related activities.
For a fee, the Board of Education will also make school-owned vehicles available to transport groups of qualified senior or disabled citizens to civic, social, cultural, educational, recreational, nutritional and health programs and activities within the district, or in the immediately surrounding districts, provided the community shares a common boundary with the Morris School District. Buses will be available on weekends, on days when school is not in session and during school days subject to availability.
"Qualified" senior citizens are persons over 60 residing in the area served by this school district and their spouses of less than 60 if they are accompanying them. Handicapped groups shall include
nonhandicapped spouses or necessary companions.
For a fee, the Board of Education will also make district buses available to groups of children and adults for transportation to and from municipal programs or events; subject to availability.
Buses shall be operated only by a Morris School District employee having a valid school bus driver’s
license, approved by the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles. In the event of emergency school
closing due to inclement weather, fuel crises, etc., Morris School District administration shall have the
authority to exercise its own judgment in the approval or denial of the use of Morris School District
vehicles under the conditions described above.
The Superintendent or his/her designee shall formulate administrative regulations in conformity with N.J.A.C. 6:21-12.2 and all other pertinent law.
- These regulations shall provide for payment by the group of all costs incurred by the district in
such use of its vehicles.
- The regulations will also refer to, without duplicating, all current regulations governing conduct of
the public on and/or using school facilities. All persons shall refrain from using tobacco or
alcoholic products while on Morris School District school buses or in other school facilities.
- Citizens shall be charged to cover the cost of each trip. This charge shall reflect a cost per mile
for fuel, maintenance, insurance, depreciation, parking fees, driver’s salary and administrative
cost. These costs shall be determined by the Business Administrator/Board Secretary and so
stipulated in a written confirmation of the approval for the transportation.
The Superintendent or his/her designee shall approve the use of buses for all non-school
purposes.
