The Business Administrator/Board Secretary shall manage the insurance program of the Morris
School District to provide the broadest, most complete property and liability coverage available,
secured at the most economical cost consistent with sound insurance principles. The Board of
Education shall take advantage of all cost-effective means.
Agents shall be selected on the basis of quotations and other pertinent factors. Because good
service is vital to an effective insurance program, consideration shall be given to the selection of
an agent or agents who are capable of rendering the desired quality of service and who will be
readily available to do so.
The Board of Education may engage an insurance consultant to review the complete insurance
program and investigate such alternatives as:
- Assumption of risk by the Board of Education;
- Savings through loss prevention;
- Transfer-of-risk alternatives;
- Self-insurance risks.
The Board of Education shall maintain sufficient liability insurance of all Board of Education and
staff members while they are conducting official school business. The Board of Education shall
insure against any civil, administrative, criminal or quasi-criminal actions, or other legal
proceedings that might be brought against any staff, Board of Education member or approved
volunteer for any act or omission arising out of, and in the course of, the performance of the
duties of his/her office, position or employment.
All school property shall be insured at 100% of the current appraised value. The appraisal shall
