SAFETY

It is in the intent of the Board of Education to implement a total safety program which is designed to protect and safeguard its pupils and employees; to set standards of safety and delineate procedures designed to maintain these standards; and to develop procedures to be followed in case of accident or other physical incapacitation.

The Superintendent or his/her designee shall provide rules and programs for safety and prevention of accidents; instruct pupils in safety and accident prevention; provide protective devices where they are required for the safety of pupils and employees; and provide suitable and safe equipment where such equipment is necessary for the conduct of the educational program and the operation of the school.

The rules and programs shall include but not be limited to: pupil safety in school; employee job safety; vehicle safety programs; care of injured persons; plant safety including removal and/or encapsulation of asbestos; labeling and storage of hazardous substances; emergency procedures; pupil safety in transit to and from school; and eye protection. In addition, pupils shall be provided with safety instruction in accordance with the law. They shall address as a minimum the requirements of law and the applicable rules and regulations of various departments of state government along with the guidelines mandated by the annual insurance report and this policy.

The Superintendent or his/her designee as well as the Business Administrator/Board Secretary shall be responsible for the promulgation of such rules to all personnel concerned.
