OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF PLANT

The Board of Education is responsible for providing school buildings that are safe from hazards; sanitary; properly equipped, lighted and ventilated; and aesthetically suited to promoting the goals of the district. School buildings and site accommodations shall include provisions for individuals with disabilities pursuant to law and regulations.

The Superintendent or his/her designee shall develop and enforce detailed regulations for the safe and sanitary operation of the buildings and grounds. The regulations shall be reviewed by the Board of Education, and explained to all staff annually at the beginning of each school year and when any changes are made.

The Superintendent and Business Administrator/Board Secretary shall develop a multiyear comprehensive maintenance plan for Board of Education approval, to be updated annually. Whenever possible and feasible, maintenance shall be preventative. The program shall include:
  1. A regular summer program of facilities repair and conditioning;
  2. Critical spare parts inventory;
  3. An equipment replacement program;
  4. A long-range program of building modernization by replacement;
  5. A multiyear maintenance program;
  6. Establishment of sound priorities among the requests for repairs received from district administrators.
