All charges to elementary and secondary pupils shall be kept at a minimum. Materials used by
pupils in art, industrial arts, and home economics in projects that are to be taken home may be
charged to the pupils. No pupil shall be caused to suffer embarrassment because of financial
inability to participate in any activity or project under control of the district.
Gate Receipts
Reasonable charges for admission to school-sponsored events shall be approved by the Board
of Education on recommendation of the Superintendent or his/her designee. All money shall be
deposited in the appropriate account as designated by the Business Administrator/Board
Secretary.
Courtesy Cards
Senior citizens, residents of the district 62 years of age or older, shall be admitted without charge
to school events determined by the administration. Upon application, a courtesy card shall be
issued by the Business Administrator/Board Secretary to any qualified resident or retiree of the
Morris School District.
Two free passes to school events will be available to each Board of Education member and to
each former Board of Education member.
The courtesy card will list the activities and events to which the holder will be admitted without
charge.
Instructions shall be given to the courtesy card holder or organization in charge of any activity
conducted by this Board of Education concerning the implementation of its policy. Such
instructions shall include the following:
- The holder of any valid courtesy card should present the card at the box office,
registration desk or similar location for any activity covered by Board of Education policy.
- The holder of the courtesy card must meet and comply with all applicable and
appropriate requirements of the activity except the admission charge.
- The individual or organization in charge of the activity covered by this policy should honor
the card and admit the holder to such activity without charge.
The Board of Education will honor athletic passes from all districts which are members of the
conferences in which teams of this district compete.
Lost/Damaged Educational Material/Equipment
The Superintendent or his/her designee shall oversee preparation of a schedule of fines for lost
or damaged textbooks and/or equipment. The same schedule shall apply to nonpublic school
pupils who lose or damage textbooks loaned to them, see policy 6161.3.
Responsibility for Instructional Materials
The principal of each school shall inform all pupils and parents/guardians of the policy regarding
their responsibility for instructional material.
Lost Textbooks and Other Instructional Materials and Equipment
- Pupils shall be required to pay for lost textbooks. The formula for determining the
amount to be paid shall be to deduct 20% from the price for each year of use. A 20%
value shall be assigned to the book after five years of use.
- Pupils shall be required to pay the replacement cost of all other lost instructional
materials.
Damaged Textbooks and Other Instructional Materials and Equipment
Fines shall be assessed for lost or damaged textbooks and other instructional materials and
equipment in an amount to be determined by the building principal, but in no case shall the fines
be greater than the cost of the item or cost of the item if lost.
All fees and fines assessed must be received by the Morris School District Business Office prior
to June 30 of any school year. This includes fees for the rentals of musical instruments, etc.
These fees or fines must be paid in order to receive this year's report card.
