SCHOOL-CONNECTED ORGANIZATIONS
(Including HSA, PSO, Boosters, etc.) The Board of Education will encourage the work of a general, voluntary, school-connected organization of parents/guardians, school staff and friends of the school in each school. Such organizations may not establish educational policy, participate in the administration of the school, or authorize management and direction of school affairs. Such organizations shall have as their objectives:
The Board shall make it a practice not to interfere in the internal workings of such groups. However, the Board must approve proposed fund-raising activities of such groups when school facilities and/or personnel and pupils will be involved. The Superintendent shall review proposed gifts from such groups and recommend acceptance or rejection of the gift or gifts to the Board of Education. (See Policy #1313.1, Gifts from Community Organizations). The Board, after considering the impact of the gift(s) on the educational program, will make the final decision. Permission to hold regular meetings of such associations in school facilities will be extended by the Board of Education for a particular school year, in accordance with policy #1330.1, Use of School Facilities. Arrangements for such meetings must be coordinated with the building Principal and the Business Administrator or his/her designee. The school Principal or another professional staff member designated by the Principal may serve as adviser to the general home and school organization. All members of the professional staff shall be encouraged to join such organizations and to participate in their activities.
