The Board of Education believes that school district-community relations is not solely an
information program, but encompasses all aspects of the schools’ relationship with the total
community. To further this goal the Board advocates the establishment of a structured
community involvement program in order to:
- Promote public interest and encourage participation in the operation of the school system;
- Gather information about public attitudes toward the school system and its programs and
report them to the Superintendent and the Board;
- Provide an honest, continuous, comprehensive flow of information about the mission, goals,
policies, procedures, programs, problems, and progress of the school system to the
community and to the staff;
- Develop the most effective means of communication with the school district’s public and use
available media as appropriate;
- Develop programs in the schools that will integrate home, school, and community in meeting
the needs of district pupils and community residents;
- Develop and maintain the confidence of the community in the school board and the school
staff;
- Support a climate that attracts good teachers and encourages staff to strive for excellence in
the educational program;
- Build relationships with local civic, community, and business leaders in order to create
ongoing understanding and support for school programs and goals;
- Anticipate and forestall problems that are brought about by lack of understanding;
- Evaluate the community involvement program annually and share the findings with the Board
so that it can help to affirm the successful activities and suggest possible future
improvements.
The Superintendent shall be responsible for developing and promoting programs, techniques,
and channels for implementing this policy.
