Morristown High School will hold its fourth annual Athletics Gallery of Honor Induction ceremony at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 8 in the high school auditorium, 50 Early Street, Morristown.
The Athletics Gallery of Honor celebrates the history of Morristown High School athletics and honors those coaches, players and friends who have helped to shape that history. Individual players selected for induction include: Wayne Backes, '60 (baseball); James Borin, '89 (fencing); Robert Callahan, '49 (tennis); Lori Lawrence Hughes, '80 (basketball); Kim Romano, '83 (field hockey); Rick Sofield, '75 (baseball); Rocco Vigilante, '29 (baseball); and Gary Wikander, '60 (wrestling). Jim Bassano and John Porcelli will be honored as coaches.
"The Morristown High School athletics program has long been recognized among the finest in the state," observed Alumni Association president, Dave Perry. "The individuals to be honored on December 9 contributed greatly to that reputation. The alumni we will honor represented Morristown High School with distinction both on and off the field while student-athletes, and continued to do so following graduation. The two coaches we will honor, Mr. Bassano and Mr. Porcelli, taught our athletes how to work hard as individuals and as a team, and how to win with humility and how to lose with grace. Each of these individuals has contributed greatly to the proud tradition and history of Morristown High School."
Current student-athletes will introduce each honoree and review her or his athletic accomplishments while a student at Morristown High School as well as her or his achievements following graduation. A reception will be held in the Athletics Gallery of Honor immediately following the induction ceremony. The public is welcome to attend.
